Ethics in Business - Please Have Some

June 14, 2007

Is your business ethical?

What I mean is “Does your business do the right thing when faced with that decision?” It’s a simple question, which many businesses struggle with. I just don’t understand the struggle part?

I have worked for companies that believed they were ethical, and really have no clue. Meaning the decisions they make everyday towards their customers and employees does not advocate ethics.

So, what is it? When someone in business gives you their word and then reneges, that is unethical. Your word is your promise. Even if it is your business making the statement.

Doing good business and being a good employer is more than your product or people, it is the guidelines in which you do that good business. I’m disappointed in how many unethical businesses exist today. I have worked for some of them and they just don’t get it… they ‘talk tough’ but when the decisions are made I can’t fathom what motivated them come to their decision? It was not necessarily ‘doing the right thing’.

Jesus is Lord: Lets Stop Usurping His Roles

June 12, 2007

In five words Paul enunciates the basic principle of the Christian life: "You are not your own" (1 Cor. 6:19). Some of the Corinthian Christians were acting like they were autonomous, as if their lives had not been bought and paid for with the precious blood of Christ. Because they ignored this principle, they were practicing sexual immorality. Paul tells them that instead they ought to "glorify God with your body" (v. 20). But this principle has broader applications than just sexual purity.

You are not your own boss. Because we are Christ’s, we are highly motivated as workers–it is the Lord Christ that we serve (Col. 3:24). This means doing all that is expected of us, and more. We will be honest and trustworthy because we love and respect Him who is our ultimate boss.

You are not your own banker. Both our ability to make money (Deut. 8:18) and our possessions themselves are gifts from God, so that we can be generous on every occasion (2 Cor. 9:11). Since our money belongs to Another, we learn to be content with it or without it, by Christ’s strength (Phil. 4:11-13).

You are not your own lawyer. The old proverb, "He who represents himself has a fool for a client," could never be truer than in heaven’s court. If we stand alone in that docket, we will surely be condemned (Rom. 3:23; 6:23). But thank God, we have an Advocate with the Father, who is effective, for He pleads the merits of His own life and His death (2 Cor. 5:21; 1 John 2:1-2). Wise clients will follow the advice of their lawyer.

Boss, banker, lawyer-in all of these roles and more, Christ is outstandingly successful, and you and I are miserable failures. Let’s listen to Paul and stop trying to usurp these jobs. To do so is to insult the Lord who can do them so much better.

Amber Mysteries Revealed

June 11, 2007

Amber, the gem of a stone that’s not really a gemstone at all, is actually fossilized pine sap. People have collected, traded, carved, and coveted amber for more than 10,000 years. Yet despite our fascination with it, much about the smoky yellow stone — the history of amber — remains a mystery.

The price for amber stones varies widely, in the right price range for Average Joe’s (and Joannas) who can spend as little as $20 for amber and silver jewelry, and also for high-rollers ready to spend $40,000 or more for a “slice of sunshine” in amber jewelry crafted in gold, platinum, and featuring other gemstones. And although it not an official “birthstone — a designation reserved for actual gemstones — amber is often presented to those born under the sign of Taurus (April 19-May 19).

History of Amber

Amber is found in Myanmar home to the largest piece of transparent amber in the world (33.5 pounds and 40-50 million years old), as well as Lebanon, Sicily, Mexico, Romania, Germany, and Canad. The two main sources of amber on the market today, however, are the Dominican Republic and the Baltic states.

The Word: What has it Changed in You Lately?

June 10, 2007

In Matthew 13 Jesus relates a paprable to His disciples. This parable is commonly known as the Parable of the Sower. The focus was on the soils, so the focus of this article will be.

The purpose of reading and studying the word of God must result in the transformation of the reader. If the reader, student or disciple simply reads and gets a clear understanding and does not apply the word to their life, what good is it?

What kind of soil is your heart?

What has the word of God changed in you lately?

Jesus explained the different kind of soils and what the results of each soil type is. Now let’s look at our heart and compare the results to see what kind of soil represents your heart. I will do an inventory of mine and you do and inventory of yours!

The first soil is The Way side Soil:

Matthew 13 :19 “When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understands it not, then comes the wicked one, and snatches away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side”.

Happiness Increases Longevity…Where Do We Find This Gift of Life?

June 9, 2007

According to U.S. research, you can add seven and a half years to your life just by being happy!

Backing this claim up is Laurie Hayes, Life Strategy Coach from Ontario, Canada who also states that genuine happiness is the key ingredient being sought after by most people who come to her.

Ms. Hayes has been working with people who have recognized this missing element in their lives and want to take corrective action towards a more meaningful, balanced existence.

"The pursuit of authentic happiness is an ongoing quest for many," says Laurie. "Some people believe that by earning more money, working longer hours, and taking on more and more responsibility, they will somehow reap big benefits that will in the end guarantee happiness. Unfortunately that just isn’t the case, and research has now proven that the more comfortable life becomes, the more discontented and unfulfilled we become."

Incredibly, professional men and women polled in a recent U.S. study were rated to be unhappiest of all. Most attributed work pressures, the need to achieve, family responsibilities, social pressures, busy lifestyles and the absence of personal and reflective time to feelings of discontentment, detachment, anxiety and even depression.

Kabbalistic Chanukah: The Downloading of Primordial Light

June 9, 2007

God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.(Genesis 1:3)

The 36 candles on the menorah correspond to the 36 hours when Adam and Eve were bathed in The Primordial Light of creation. Today, as we kindle our own lights, we call forth a revelation of this now hidden and intense light. (12th century Kabbalist, R. Eliezer of Worms)

The Primordial Light of Creation is hidden in the 36 candles of Chanukah. (B’nei Yissachar, Kislev)

Introduction

The mood of Winter shares with us the tender gift of returning to our inner wombs, where our wisdom resides and from which our destiny will once again shine forth in Divine Timing.

Chanukah, the Festival of Lights invites us to turn our senses inward to find, cultivate, and rededicate our inner sanctuary. It is a time to empty accumulated garbage, to create an open and receptive space, and to cultivate an intimate relationship with our emotions as the sensory system of our soul. As we become more peaceful inside, we gather back our power, one candle at a time. The more supportive and nurturing our inner container, the more the Ohr HaGanuz, the Primordial Light of Creation becomes available to us during this time of year.

Progress Versus Perfection

June 8, 2007

From the creative explosion marking the outset of the universe to our advanced human stage in evolution, some fifteen billion years have elapsed. This advanced stage refers to the natural abilities and the cultural realizations of our species. While these natural abilities have virtually not changed in the last hundred thousand years, these cultural realizations have progressed exponentially over the same period. The former depend on a biological memory ? the genetic information that is stored in human cells and can be transmitted through reproduction. The latter depend on a social memory ? the didactic information that is stored in human libraries and can be transmitted through education. Together these two memories and modes of transmission supply the necessary tools to perpetuate and ameliorate humanity. The problem is that humans rarely use these tools to the maximum. They reproduce very well; more than five billion people testify to that; but they could do better in every other respect, witness the many instances of weakness and wickedness that tarnish their image.

Of Snakes and Terrorism

June 7, 2007

With the passing of Arafat, the Middle East will take on a slightly different face, allowing the possibilities for prophetic fulfillment to speed up. The pathway is now open for renewed efforts to procure peace in the Middle East, using the avenue of the formation of the promised Palestinian State. But this window of opportunity may not remain open for long. Indeed pressure is now mounting from the United States, encouraged by Britian, to get on with the steps necessary to implement the terms of the "Road Map."

January 9, 2005 has already been scheduled for Palestinian elections. The emerging line-up of candidates all have questionable backgrounds harking back to their various roles during the Arafat era.

It goes without saying, the achievement of the Palestinian goals will be a power struggle fanned by the more radical insurgents and hard-liner Islamic regimes. Hamas has already stated it is planning to increase pressure on Israel by escalating their terrorist activity in Gaza and the West Bank, whereas Islamic Jihad, Fatah, and the Al Aksa Brigade ( now being referred to as the Arafat Brigade) have issued statements they are planning to halt all atrocities until the election is over.

10 Steps to Happily Ever After

June 6, 2007

Do you know what all happy and healthy marriages have in common? In every one of them you will find two people committed to making each other happy. You will find a man who cherishes his wife and puts her needs above his own, and you will find a wife who respects and trusts her man. We live in very selfish times. Pop-psychology messages are everywhere in the media encouraging us to love ourselves, do right by ourselves, and generally please ourselves first. If you really want a happy marriage, don’t buy into that type of self-centered thinking. Instead, try these 10 time-tested techniques and experience the happiness, peace, and tranquility of a healthy marriage.

1. Make time for each other. It’s so easy in our hyper-busy modern lifestyles to forget to set aside a little time to enjoy each other’s company. Start a weekly tradition of setting a date for the two of you to be together doing something you both enjoy. Keep it simple. Take a nice walk together. Sip coffee together in a cozy coffeehouse. Talk to each other, reminisce, and get to know each other again.
