Was there Always Bias in Journalism? Ask George Washington. Hell tell you

January 6, 2008

There is bias in the elite media! How often do you hear that on cable talk shows? Yes,George Bush gets criticized by the press. Clinton before him took it on the chin and every president before him felt the sting of slings and arrows.Truman and Roosevelt got it, Lincoln certainly did and so did Adams and Jefferson. It started before all the aforementioned presidents because the very first”victim” of presidential "media" bias was none other than George Washington.

And what provoked the media bias that plagued the man who has been revered thoughout our nation’s history?

First a little background…

The tap root of American journalism was sunk into partisan soil when Patriot and Tory hurled invectives across a widening line of intolerance over the Stamp Act in 1765. The twenty three papers in the colonies then were four- page weeklies of local advertising, local here-say and large sections of European news, cut verbatim from the London press. News as we know it was non-existent.

True Happiness

January 5, 2008

Most people look outside of themselves as the cause of their unhappiness or frustration. After all, wouldn’t life be practically perfect if the significant people in our lives would simply do things the way we want them to or do what we think is best for them? Actually, this is the kind of thinking that perpetuates the misery!

I agree that most of today’s unhappiness centers on important people in our lives not cooperating with us. Can anyone relate to that? Have you ever had a child who makes a decision that puts them in serious danger? Have you ever had a significant other decide to relocate or make an employment decision with which you were not in agreement? Did one of your parents ever say something critical to you that rocked your confidence? Ever had a supervisor who micromanaged your work and never gave credit for your good work performance? I think you get the idea. Any one or combination of these things can be a source of unhappiness for us and I’m sure you can add several others to the list.

Fellowship Forever

January 5, 2008

Today I would like to share with you the word “Fellowship” as rendered from the Greek word in the New Testament in the KJV “Koinonia”. The word is from the Greek root word “Koinonos”, which is translated partaker five times, partner three times, fellowship one time and companion one time for a total of ten times.

The word “fellowship” (Koinonia) is used in the New Testament a total of twenty times in eighteen verses. It is often rendered fellowship, communion, communication and contribution. The word koinonia often is used as the share which one has in something or ones participation. In current vernacular, fellowship is often used as a meeting or a get together of believers even as, “hanging out with Christians”. The word is also used today as a state of being in alignment with God’s Word and His Will.

We will take a look at the uses of this word koinonia in the New Testament keeping in mind that today’s vernacular is not to be imposed on the Word but rather the Word should dictate how our vernacular should be today.

How to Study the Bible 5 Keys

January 4, 2008

This article was inspired by a book by E. W. Bullinger called How to Enjoy the Bible, it was written in the early 1900’s and has inspired me to devote a lifetime of research to the Word of God, I hope this will inspire you too.

There are a few basic elements we must state before we get in-depth on how to study God’s wonderful Word. First we must know that there is only one requirement that is written in the Word pertaining to studying the Word. We must rightly divide it.

II Tim. 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

It matters little what people have thought or said the Bible says. There have been volumes that have listed the names and views of what people have said the Bible says and we would learn very little if we were to study it all we would only become confused. We need only to stay in the Word and leave not the pages of the Bible to understand the great truth that God has revealed.

American Citizenship

Can We Pass The Test?

American Citizenship

I’m the daughter of an American soldier and with that comes pride of my American heritage, and love and pride for our country. I have thought of myself as being a patriot, which I am. But I have found out to my dismay, that we as Americans have not gone to any length to know enough about our country.

I feel very lucky that I was born here.

Online there is a citizenship test, similar to the test that those from other countries are required to take. I took the test and made a score of 6 out of a possible 11. I regarded that as a low score but the test said not that bad.

I was disappointed in myself, a daughter of a ww2 vet, who knew so little about my country.

It amazes me that those from other countries would sacrifice so much, their families and those they love to come to a country so different from their own.

They have to live in America five years, obtain good employment, and there are those that even marry American citizens to obtain citizenship to our country.

Happiness Versus Pleasure

January 2, 2008

We are a pleasure seeking society. Most of us spend our energy seeking pleasure and avoiding pain. We hope that by doing this, we will feel happy. Yet deep, abiding happiness and joy elude so many people.

There is a huge difference between happiness and pleasure. Pleasure is a momentary feeling that comes from something external ? a good meal, our stock going up, making love, and so on. Pleasure has to do with the positive experiences of our senses, and with good things happening. Pleasurable experiences can give us momentary feelings of happiness, but this happiness does not last long because it is dependent upon external events and experiences. We have to keep on having the good experiences ? more food, more drugs or alcohol, more money, more sex, more things ? in order to feel pleasure. As a result, many people become addicted to these external experiences, needing more and more to feel a short-lived feeling of happiness.

Understanding How To Pray - Part 1 of 2

January 1, 2008

Being in the Ministry for a few years now, I’ve noticed one major issue that most Christians seem to have trouble with that issue is understanding prayer.

I can not count how many times people talk as if prayer is a foreign thing, or the numbers of prayers will equal success with getting God to move on your part. I too, have struggled with this issue for many years. I use to think that prayer was some form of special God given talent; futhermore, I would try and find someone who I thought could really pray, to pray for me, as if their great prayers could help me in my problems. I can recall seeing a church billboard saying “praying with many tears can move mountains with God.” As I was reading this sign, the Spirit of God moved on me and said, “prayer of tears will not make me move, only prayers that are based on the word of God.”
