Merton Abbey Mills Developments

July 23, 2008

For those who don’t know, Merton Abbey Mills is an idyllic riverside craft village, just down the road in Colliers Wood running along side the river Wandle.

Merton Abbey Mills offers a variety of markets on the weekend including craft stalls, a farmers market with free range eggs, organic meat, cheeses, savoury and sweet pies and more, there are also food stalls and a great selection of shops with an endless choice of goods from books and prints to herbs and pottery.

Merton Abbey Mills was formerly the home of the Liberty Print Works. The Liberty site, a collection of Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian buildings encompassing over two centuries of industrial history was sold by Liberties in 1977. It then stood empty and neglected for vandals and fly-tippers.

The Wandle Industrial Museum was formed in 1983 by local people interested in saving the site and its buildings from further dereliction. The aim was to turn it into a working museum reflecting the varied history of the whole River Wandle.

5 Keys to Understanding Why Your Life (probably) Sucks! #2

July 22, 2008

In Key Reason #1 we looked at how you are working with outdated beliefs. Reason # 2 gives a clue as to why that might be so.

Your Capability has outstripped your Cope-ability

Have you ever been in a situation where you think to yourself ” I just can’t cope any more”? Psychologists’ and psychiatrists’ waiting rooms are full of such people for whom life has become too much.

That is because we choose to live at a level of awareness below that of which we are capable. The reason why people choose that lower level of awareness stems from the belief that they will not be able to cope with the responsibility that would be theirs at the higher levels. And so, a little like the crocodile which raises its eyes just above the water line only to sink below the surface again, they sink down into what they perceive as a safer environment.

Whose Land?

July 21, 2008

It is interesting that everyone is so hung-up on the debate regarding who has official rights to The Land known historically as "The Land of Canaan."

If we go back far enough, we discover the near Middle East was settled by descendants of Canaan, thus the region was referred to as “The Land of Canaan.” Abraham was not of the line of Canaan. How was it then, that Abraham was given the Everlasting Covenant of the Land?

Who was Abraham? Was he an Arab, or was he a Jew? Actually, neither! Abraham arose from the ethnic background of the Chaldeans, arising out of ancient Sumer, descendants of Shem.

The Arab nations arose through the lines of: Abraham’s nephew Lot, Abraham’s son Ishmael, and through Esau the twin brother of Jacob. The Jews descended from Abraham, through the line of his promised son, Isaac, who fathered Jacob. In other words, both the Jews and the Arabs are able to trace their ethnic roots through Abraham back to the Shemite Chaldeans, the descendants of Shem.

The Scrolls and the Grail

July 20, 2008

DEAD SEA SCROLLS: - Dr Norman Golb is a top scholar who makes a plea for the de-politicization of the Dead Sea Scrolls. His plea is not related to the current argument that Palestine will own or control the Scrolls but to the Generals and politicians who piecemeal and with apparent deceit are doling out access to these important documents for the examination of scholars. The original involvement of the Catholic scholars and the Scrolls being housed in a Museum named for the Rockefellers is of more concern to me. The management of the life of Jesus and his brother James (’the Righteous) who led the group at Qumran that some are calling Essenes is why the concern exists for myself and others who know the ways of the Christologists. They have blamed the Jews for ‘killing our Saviour’.

The Happiness of Others

July 19, 2008

Is there any necessary connection between our actions and the happiness of others? Disregarding for a moment the murkiness of the definitions of “actions” in philosophical literature - two types of answers were hitherto provided.

Sentient Beings (referred to, in this essay, as “Humans” or “persons”) seem either to limit each other - or to enhance each other’s actions. Mutual limitation is, for instance, evident in game theory. It deals with decision outcomes when all the rational “players” are fully aware of both the outcomes of their actions and of what they prefer these outcomes to be. They are also fully informed about the other players: they know that they are rational, too, for instance. This, of course, is a very farfetched idealization. A state of unbounded information is nowhere and never to be found. Still, in most cases, the players settle down to one of the Nash equilibria solutions. Their actions are constrained by the existence of the others.

The “Hidden Hand” of Adam Smith (which, among other things, benignly and optimally regulates the market and the price mechanisms) - is also a “mutually limiting” model. Numerous single participants strive to maximize their (economic and financial) outcomes - and end up merely optimizing them. The reason lies in the existence of others within the “market”. Again, they are constrained by other people’s motivations, priorities ands, above all, actions.

Astrology Refuted: They Should Have Seen It Coming

July 18, 2008

A comedian once showed a newspaper to his audience. The headline read, “1-800 Astrology Business Goes Under: They Should Have Seen It Coming.” Everyone laughed, including me. We chuckled at the irony of a real contradiction here. If such a business could provide the service they claim, then its owners should have succeeded where other businesses failed. In fact, if they really knew the future, they likely wouldn’t bother with this business at all. They would simply raid the stock market with a perfect investing record. We all somewhat instinctively know this, even those of us who have never had the occasion to sit and think it through carefully.

But this pseudo-science has another problem that concerns us. It’s adherents who create the garden-variety horoscope columns (found in most any newspaper) spotlight a basic contradiction. On the one hand, they pretend to tell your future based upon the timing of your birth and the alignment of the stars and/ or planets. Philosophers have called this assumption “astral determinism.”

Revealing

July 18, 2008

It is written in Revelation 1:1 The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, who testifies to everything he saw-that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. Blessed is the one who reads the word of the prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.

It is also written in Revelation 22:16 I Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.

It is written in 2Peter 1:16 We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory saying, This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.

Relationships and the Law of Attraction

July 17, 2008

This question and answer article was done by Gizelle River, Virtual Administrator and Writer. Visit her website.

G: Hi Michael. Today’s topic is relationships. In your hundreds of seminars and TeleClasses, what are people saying about their relationships or lack of them? What kind of complaints do you most often hear?

M: I’d like to start by saying that the amount of people on our planet who are single continue to surprise me. Having said that, the thing I hear people saying most often about attracting their ideal mate is that it’s HARD to do. I hear over and over again that there are no ‘good’ men or women left, or that people keep attracting *&#@* kinds of dates! People complain that all the ‘good’ prospects are already taken or that their dating experiences are disastrous. Of course, if they knew what I knew they’d know exactly WHY they are getting the kinds of relationships or dating experiences they are getting. You can hear it in the words they use when they comment! Half-way through my seminars, these people get their “Ahh-Hah!” moment! They learn that NOT getting their ideal relationship or partner has nothing to do with the availability of ‘good’ men or women. They learn that it’s all about the vibes they’ve been sending!

Living By the Truth, the Word of God

July 16, 2008

Let’s be honest: Too many Christian books are nothing but fluff or teach a viewpoint that is borderline contradictory of what the Bible actually teaches. Christian publishing appears, to this reviewer at least, to be focused too much on marketing and profits, and not nearly enough on solid teaching for building up the church.

Into this mess, however, comes a breath of fresh air-"Living By the Truth" by Lillian C. Larry. Larry cuts through the clutter of so many Christian books and gives us straight talk, teaching right out of the Bible into our lives.

Over forty-two chapters, Larry touches on the necessity of studying the Bible to what to do when God is silent, from the truth about homosexuality to the importance of Bible school, and many serious topics in between. She even includes the text of scripture for such foundational books as 1 Thessalonians, 1 John, and Revelation.

Larry hits hard, and this book may not be for those accustomed to reading Christianity-lite. But never is she harsh or rude; she simply speaks what the Bible speaks, sharing her struggles and showing us how to overcome challenges and obstacles in our lives, all the while remaining faithful to God.

History and the Cathars (Courtly Love):

July 15, 2008

This is an entry from my three volume encyclopedia.

CRUSADES, CATHARS AND ‘COURTLY LOVE’: - One of the greatest legacies of the revitalization of the teachings of ‘brotherhood’ in the 13th century of the Troubadors was sexual and gender respect. The Cathar ‘dove’ and Peace were not destined to last, but the education of people could not be squelched. It can be argued that the world was a better place then: the Americas were still part of the ‘Brotherhood’ although the Mediterranean warlike cultures of misogynistic deviate men had a strong foothold. Many people there were willing to see a different course of action based more on nurturing female aspects of our psyche. The Templars surely fought to protect the Cathars and they shortly thereafter had to reconfigure as the Knights of Christ in Portugal. Around that time one of the ‘waves of Asians’ came out of the steppes and brought the Pax Tartaris. These waves are becoming as exposed as the ‘Sea Peoples/Hyksos’ theory and some limited Trojan War. Temujin or Genghis Khan was not as barbarian as the Europeans and Tarim’s recent pictures of ‘red-heads’ near the Great Wall in 1800 BC were in his Altaic region over a millenium before that. The history of the cultural evolution of man was benefited by the announcement of the modern man who is not our genetic blood and is much older (2x or more, If not a great deal more to tie in with the Flores Island seafarers of 800,000+ years where the Hobbit is now found.). Indeed the archaeological and genetic forensic as well as forensic tools, including linguistics blow the roof off the old ‘his’-story!
